  • Whitehorse Mayor Gordon Armstrong steps down and is succeeded by Gordon Cameron. Councillors Jim Smith, Jack McCandless, Bud Fisher, Jim Hanna run for election but the results are disputed. Subsequently, Jim Howatt, Bert Law, Vic Wylie and Ed Jacobs are installed as city Alderman.
  • The Yukon's first 60th wedding anniversay is celebrated by Mr. and Mrs. James Geary. Mr. & Mrs. James Geary had operated a fox farm next to the shipyards.
  • Alvin Hamilton, the Minister of Northern Affairs and Natural Resources, visits the Yukon.
  • Wing Commander T.T. Scovill RCAF is transferred after a one year service in the Yukon.
  • The Lions Swimming Pool opens.
  • The Whitehorse Rapids dam is completed.
  • Cable TV is now available in downtown Whitehorse. It is on evenings only with one channel and black and white programming. Coverage includes live TV focused on the liquor store entrance.
  • CNT acquires the telephone system in Whitehorse and Mayo from A. S. Barker.
