First Train in the Yukon

On June 7, 1900, the first train arrived in Whitehorse. This photograph was taken by E.J. Hamacher who established a photo studio and sold photographic supplies. He died in 1937. In the 1940's, Rolf Hougen acquired over 1100 of Hamacher's glass plates from Horace Moore, editor of the Whitehorse Star. Margaret and Rolf donated these photo plates to the Yukon Archives in 2002.
